We were hiking an area that was heavily foliaged and had marshland on either side when this little armadillo showed up in the middle of the path. This armadillo was much more concerned with the bugs it was rooting up than it was with the annoying humans who were approaching. It's lack of concern allowed me to get some nice close-up photos.

Coots at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (Nov 2019)
Coots are basically pigeons that decided to be ducks. I'm not knocking coots -- I like pigeons! -- they just remind me of pigeon-ducks. They even have red eyes like a pigeon.

Great Blue Heron at Padre Island National Seashore (Nov 2019)
Happily, the heron came down the beach to where we were sitting a little while later. And, I had the luck to capture it catching (and eating) a large fish.
After its meal, it flew even closer to us and hung out until a large truck came by and scared the heron off into the dunes.

Little bird at Paradise Pond (Nov 2019)
I didn't know what I was taking a photo of when I snapped this picture. I thought it was a little house sparrow; I didn't know it was a little green bird. It's not a great picture, but I think this is a lesser goldfinch.
Oyster Mushrooms at Paradise Pond (Nov 2019)
I'm not 100% certain these are oyster mushrooms (I'm not a mycologist!) but they look like oyster mushrooms to me. At any rate, these were huge -- each display was bigger than my head.
Anole at Charlie's Pasture (Nov 2019)
This little lizard was hanging out in between the slats on one of the birding gazebos in Charlie's Pasture. It wasn't too concerned about us watching it nap.

Ghost Crab
This little ghost crab caught our attention as we were leaving the beach. It very kindly hung around for me to take photos.
